LAUTECH Strengthens Global Presence with Eight Scholars Listed Among World’s Top 2% Scientists
Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has once again consolidated its position on the global research stage with the inclusion of eight of its affiliates in the 2025 list of the world’s top 2% scientists, released by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier.

The annual ranking, derived from the Scopus database, evaluates scholars worldwide based on citation metrics, research productivity, and scholarly impact. In the 2025 edition, 291 Nigerian researchers made the list, with LAUTECH contributing eight—six current academic staff members and two former students who maintain affiliation with the University through their mentors.

The LAUTECH scholars featured include:
- Late Prof. Abass A. Olajire (Pure and Applied Chemistry) – ranked 5th in Nigeria
- Prof. Olugbenga S. Bello (Pure and Applied Chemistry) – ranked 18th in Nigeria
- Prof. Agbaje Lateef (Pure and Applied Biology) – ranked 50th in Nigeria
- Dr. Samson Olaniyi (Pure and Applied Mathematics) – ranked 178th in Nigeria
- Dr. Roland E. Akhigbe (Physiology) – ranked 249th in Nigeria
- Prof. Ayodeji F. Ajayi (Physiology) – ranked 280th in Nigeria
The trio of late Prof. Olajire, Prof. Bello, and Prof. Lateef have consistently featured on the list for six consecutive years, making them LAUTECH’s most cited scholars and reinforcing the University’s global academic visibility.
LAUTECH debuted on the global ranking in 2020 with three scholars, which increased to five in 2024 and now six in 2025, in addition to the two alumni affiliates. The University leadership commended the scholars for their outstanding contributions to knowledge, describing their recognition as a reflection of LAUTECH’s rising profile in global research and innovation.
