Lens Polytechnic and Lens University Clinch Top Spots at NLA Kwara Inter-School Competition

The 200 level Library and Information Science students of Lens University Ilemona and HND ll Library and Information Science students of Lens Polytechnic Offa have defeated other schools to emerge as the 2nd and 1st runner-ups of the Nigerian Library Association (NLA) Kwara State Chapter Inter-School competition in Ilorin, Kwara State Capital.

The second edition of the competition held at the National Library of Nigeria Ilorin featured Kwara State University, Malete, Lens University Ilemona, Lens Polytechnic Offa, Federal Polytechnic Offa and Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin.

The keenly contested competition covered key areas of librarianship, including reference services, organisation of knowledge, research methodology, legal issues and intellectual properties.

While announcing the results, the Chairman, NLA Kwara State Chapter, Dr. Bello Abdullateef congratulated all the institutions for participating in the competition. He commended the dedication and commitment of the students and encouraged them to continue to strive for greater heights in knowledge and scholarship.

Also speaking, the Financial Secretary of the Association, Mr. Mammoud S. Olaitan, on behalf of the association appreciated the proprietor of Lens Institutions, Dr. Azeez Yisa FCA and the rector of Lens Polytechnic, Dr. Mrs. Mulikat Bolajoko Aliyu for their consistent support.

In his reaction, the proprietor applauded the students for representing the university and polytechnic in the competition and clinching the second runner-up and 1st runner-up positions.

According to him, “On behalf of the management, I commend the students for making the two institutions (university and polytechnic) proud. For the university students, it is their first time and they won the third position. The polytechnic students have always been winning prizes at the competition every year. We consider this a great feat because it shows the level of our competence and quality education we give to our students at Lens Institutions." 

In addition, the rector, Dr. Mrs. Mulikat Bolajoko Aliyu lauded the students for outstanding performances. While appreciating the proprietor for creating an enabling environment for teaching and learning, she commended the lecturers of the department for good tutelage and mentorship.

On his part, the institutions' librarian, Mr. Ahmad Sheriff Banuso appreciated the management for the full support and for encouraging the department to do better. He applauded the students for being good ambassadors of the institutions. 

In his note of appreciation, the Head of Department of Library and Information and Public Relations Officer of NLA, Kwara Chapter, Mr. Dere Abiodun thanked the proprietor, the rector, and the leadership of the departments. He commended the students' conduct, diligence, and sense of responsibility.

“Through your performance and engagement, you have demonstrated the quality training and academic values upheld by the institutions. You have represented the departments and the institutions with distinction, and your efforts are worthy of recognition," he stated. 

The students who represented Lens University led by Mr. Tomiwa Ayomide were: Olanrewaju Success, Dauda Ahmad, Adeniji Emmanuel, Adebayo Deborah, and Salako Oluwatobi.
