Mock Accreditation Exercise Begins at ADUN

Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) has commenced a mock accreditation exercise to prepare its academic programmes for accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Head of the Quality Assurance Unit, Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance (DAP), Mr Daniel Onoja, disclosed this during an interview with the university’s Information, Communication and Protocol Unit in Ibusa.

According to him, the exercise is also aimed at determining whether departments provide students with relevant academic regulations and information concerning their academic activities.

He explained that the team would scrutinise students’ files to identify deficiencies, assess internal quality assurance systems and evaluate documentation.

Onoja added that the exercise would enable departments to make necessary adjustments before the main accreditation exercise.

He disclosed that the findings from the exercise would be compiled into a report and presented to the university management through the Directorate of Academic Planning.

The Head of Curriculum and Programme Development, DAP, Dr Chantal Ejeh, commended the departments for their cooperation throughout the exercise.

She particularly praised the Department of Computing Sciences for its cooperation and appreciated the university management for its support in providing personnel, equipment and facilities.

However, Ejeh appealed to the management to sustain and strengthen its support for the university’s academic programmes.

She said the team would also assess compliance with NUC standards, particularly with regard to curriculum content.

Ejeh stressed that any deviation from the prescribed standards would not be tolerated.

Also speaking, the Head of Data Management and Statistics, Dr Godson Ubido, commended the departments for their cooperation.

He expressed confidence in their preparedness, saying, “With what we have seen, the various departments would push through in the course of accreditation.”

The Head of Department, Computing Sciences, Dr Johnson Ibuot, appreciated the team for conducting the exercise.

He expressed hope that the findings would guide the Departments of Computing Sciences, Software Engineering and International Relations in preparing for the main accreditation exercise.

Ibuot also thanked the university management for approving the mock accreditation exercise.
