NDA Resource Inspection Team Ends Visit to Federal Polytechnic Damaturu

A resource inspection team from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has ended its visit to the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu to assess the institution's readiness for proposed Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes in Engineering.

Speaking during the exit session, the leader of the inspection team, Prof. Jacob Olaitan Akindapo, said the team inspected laboratories, workshops and studios, particularly facilities supporting Civil, Electrical/Electronics, Mechanical and Computer Engineering.

Prof. Akindapo noted that facilities inspected were generally in good condition, while identifying some areas requiring improvement to further strengthen readiness for the proposed postgraduate programmes.

He commended the Polytechnic's Central Library for having relevant collections but observed that departmental libraries needed more relevant and up-to-date books to adequately support postgraduate studies.

The team leader also stressed the need for improved housekeeping, landscaping and general environmental maintenance.

He said addressing identified areas would further enhance the academic environment and support effective delivery of the proposed postgraduate engineering programmes.

In her remarks, the Dean of the School, Engr. Aishatu Garga Ali, appreciated the inspection team for conducting a successful and professional exercise.

Responding, the Deputy Rector, Administration, Dr. Lawan Cheri, who represented the Rector, Dr. Ibrahim Bello Bashir, appreciated the team for its professional conduct.

Dr. Cheri said the exercise had provided valuable feedback, assuring that all observations and recommendations would be taken seriously.

On landscaping and environmental improvement, he said the Rector had given assurances that the Polytechnic would continue to enhance its environment, noting that the institution had recently launched three tree-planting campaigns as part of environmental sustainability efforts.

He added that collaboration between the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu and the NDA would continue, particularly in areas of exchange of personnel and students.

In his vote of thanks, the Registrar, Muazu Aliyu Iliyasu, represented by the Establishment Officer, Sulyman Yalwa, appreciated the Rector for the initiative and management for supporting the exercise.

He also thanked the inspection team for its time and commitment in visiting the institution to assess facilities and provide recommendations.

The exit session was attended by the Deputy Rector, Academics, Engr. Dr. Shettima Umar Ali; members of management; members of the Academic Board; staff of Engineering departments; and other staff.
