Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has begun discussions with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) on a proposed strategic partnership to strengthen professional accounting education and improve students' career prospects.

The discussions followed a courtesy visit by the President of ICAN, Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, FCA, to the University, where she met with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, alongside principal officers of the University and members of the Institute.
The engagement focused on possible areas of collaboration, including the proposed signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and approval for the establishment of an ICAN Accounting Technicians Scheme, West Africa (ATSWA) examination centre at NSUK ahead of the March 2027 examination diet.
Hajia Seghosime described ICAN as the conscience behind confidence and the integrity that underpins accountability. She stressed the importance of upholding professional ethics, transparency and accountability in the accounting profession and institutional governance.
She also disclosed the Institute's interest in having ICAN professional courses integrated into the University's academic curriculum. According to her, the arrangement would allow students to benefit from exemptions in relevant professional examinations and potentially qualify as chartered accountants before graduation, thereby improving their employability and competitiveness in the labour market.
The proposed partnership is expected to give NSUK students greater access to professional accounting qualifications, expand career development opportunities and strengthen the University's relationship with relevant professional bodies.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, welcomed the engagement and the prospects of a mutually beneficial partnership, particularly in advancing professional education, skills development and graduate employability.
The visit marks a step towards stronger institutional ties between NSUK and ICAN, with both institutions seeking to promote professional excellence, integrity and capacity development.
