NUC Assessment Team Arrives FUNAAB to Evaluate New Academic Programmes

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has taken a bold step toward expanding its academic frontiers as a delegation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) on September 15, 2025, arrived on campus to assess four proposed academic programmes—B.Sc. Accounting, B.Sc. Economics, B.Sc. Business Administration, and B.Sc. Banking and Finance, including an MSc programme in Agroecology.

Speaking at the brief meeting held at the Green Chamber, before the Team began their duties, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, recalled the 2017 “quality shift” that saw some Management and Social Science programmes phased out to safeguard FUNAAB’s agricultural mandate. However, he explained that the growing demand for such programmes, coupled with the University’s proven track record, has made their reintroduction timely and necessary. He stressed that the programmes were deliberately structured to complement agriculture rather than compete with it.

The Vice-Chancellor further noted that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), recognising FUNAAB’s credibility, had earlier donated a building to strengthen the College, demonstrating confidence in the University’s ability to deliver quality education.

The NUC’s visit was expected to pave the way for the formal approval of the programmes, reinforcing FUNAAB’s status as a centre of excellence in agriculture and allied disciplines while broadening opportunities for students and society.
