OAU Student Takes Own Life After Failing Exams

A second-year student of the Faculty of Dentistry at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, Ajibola Ibitayo, has taken his own life after learning he would have to repeat the class for another academic year.

According to the university spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, Ibitayo took his own life at his parents' home after discovering he would have to repeat the class for a second consecutive academic session.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the university community, with many expressing sadness and concern over the student's decision. The university's management has condoled with the family of the deceased, praying for divine strength to bear the loss.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, has advised parents and guardians to instill in their children the understanding that academic setbacks are temporary and not life-ending. The incident highlights the need for students to prioritize their mental health and seek support when faced with academic challenges.
