Ondo University Lecturers Begin Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

Lecturers at Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA) in Ondo State have commenced an indefinite strike over alleged non-payment of salary arrears by the state government.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at AAUA declared the strike after repeated appeals to the university authorities and state government to offset the backlog of salaries and arrears failed to yield results.

 The union is demanding immediate payment of unpaid salaries and arrears owed to its members.ASUU is also seeking improved funding for the university and implementation of previous agreements.

The Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, has assured that the matter would soon be resolved. He stated that the government had already increased subventions to AAUA and other tertiary institutions in the state and that a committee had been set up to resolve the issue.

The strike has disrupted academic activities at the university, with students and staff affected by the industrial action. The union has assured stakeholders of its commitment to the overall development of the institution but maintained that the welfare of its members could no longer be neglected.
