In a powerful demonstration of corporate support for education, OPay, Nigeria’s top financial service provider, has awarded N12 million in scholarships to 40 deserving students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. Each scholarship recipient will receive N300,000, easing financial burdens and allowing students to focus on their academic goals with confidence.

The scholarship ceremony, held at the ABU Vice-Chancellor’s office, was attended by OPay’s Managing Director, Dauda Gotring, an alumnus of the institution. Sharing his personal connection to ABU, Gotring remarked, “ABU holds a special place in my heart. It’s incredibly fulfilling to give back to students here who exhibit such promise. Supporting education is central to our values at OPay, and I am thrilled to be part of this initiative.”

ABU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, expressed gratitude on behalf of the university, acknowledging the impact of OPay’s scholarship on students’ lives. “This support will relieve a major financial pressure for our students, helping them focus on their dreams and academic aspirations. We are immensely grateful to OPay for this partnership,” Bala said.

The company has committed to supporting 400 students annually across top universities, including the University of Ibadan and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, with an annual budget of N120 million over the next decade.
