In a powerful demonstration of corporate support for education, OPay, Nigeria’s top financial service provider, has awarded N12 million in scholarships to 40 deserving students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. Each scholarship recipient will receive N300,000, easing financial burdens and allowing students to focus on their academic goals with confidence.

The scholarship ceremony, held at the ABU Vice-Chancellor’s office, was attended by OPay’s Managing Director, Dauda Gotring, an alumnus of the institution. Sharing his personal connection to ABU, Gotring remarked, “ABU holds a special place in my heart. It’s incredibly fulfilling to give back to students here who exhibit such promise. This scholarship program forms part of OPay’s larger plan to invest in Nigerian education. The company has committed to supporting 400 students annually across top universities, including the University of Ibadan and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, with an annual budget of N120 million over the next decade. This long-term commitment is set to transform the academic landscape by empowering future leaders and expanding opportunities for students in need.
