Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has officially assumed ownership of the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital, donated by the Alakija family to advance medical education and healthcare development in Nigeria.

The handover ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Famfa Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The event was attended by the University’s Chancellor, Apostle (Mrs.) Folorunso Alakija; Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Wale Oladipo; and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye. Representing the donor family, Mr. Dele Alakija, Managing Director of Famfa Oil, expressed delight in officially transferring the state-of-the-art facility to the University. He noted that the hospital fulfills the long-standing vision of his parents to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system through education, innovation, and service, and pledged the family’s continued support for health-related initiatives.

Prof. Adebooye described the donation as a lasting legacy for generations, emphasizing that the hospital is “not just a gift; it is a living institution that will outlive all of us.” He acknowledged the Chancellor for her benevolence, Otunba Titi Laoye-Ponnle for facilitating the partnership, and immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Labo Popoola, for initiating engagement with the Alakija family. He also thanked the Ataoja of Osogbo for donating the land and Architect Bose Ajayi for supervising the project.

Pro-Chancellor and Council Chairman, Prof. Wale Oladipo, commended the Alakija family on behalf of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and the people of the state. He highlighted the uniqueness of the hospital’s facilities and assured that it would be managed with professionalism and private-sector discipline rather than as a typical government enterprise.

The handover documents were signed by Mr. Dele Alakija and Mr. Ladi Alakija for the family, and by Prof. Adebooye and the University Registrar, Mrs. Atinuke Abosede Oguntunde, for UNIOSUN.

Located in Osogbo, the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital is equipped with modern facilities designed to enhance medical research, clinical training, and healthcare delivery.
