Over 6,000 Fresh Postgraduate Students Take ABU Matriculation Oath

More than 6,000 newly admitted postgraduate students of Ahmadu Bello University for the 2025/2026 academic session have taken the institution's matriculation oath.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Postgraduate College Auditorium, ABU, Samaru, Zaria, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, said the students were joining the university at a time when postgraduate education is taking a new direction, moving beyond the traditional approach to a system that is increasingly research-driven, innovative, technology-enabled, collaborative and responsive to societal needs.

He said the admission of about 6,000 students is a clear indication of the continuing confidence in ABU as a centre for advanced learning and research.

“You are now part of a growing community of scholars expected to continue to give knowledge and provide solutions to the challenges facing our nation and the world,” he said.

Prof. Ahmed noted that the rapid growth of artificial intelligence is transforming learning, research, information analysis and knowledge dissemination globally, and enjoined the new students to focus on impactful research that addresses real problems and contributes to national development.

In his remarks, the Provost, Postgraduate College, Prof. Oluyinka Oluseyi Okubanjo, congratulated the fresh students, stating that the college is undergoing a process of renewal, re-engineering and rebirth aimed at making the postgraduate experience more purposeful and successful.

Also speaking, the Dean of Students, Prof. Junaidu B. Sahalu, stressed the need for a revised postgraduate guide to help students understand the rules and regulations of their programmes. He urged them to take their research seriously, remain focused and disciplined, and respect the diversity of the university community.

The Director, Counselling and Human Development Centre, Prof. Hadiza Ahmed Tukur, spoke on the services offered by the centre, while heads of other units including University Health Services, Sports, Security and IAIICT also made brief presentations.

The matriculation oath was administered by the Registrar, Rabiu Samaila.
