Professor Olajide Akanji, a Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan (UI), has assumed office as the new Dean of the Faculty of The Social Sciences.

Professor Olajide Akanji, a Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan (UI), has assumed office as the new Dean of the Faculty of The Social Sciences.

Professor Akanji holds a Master of Science degree and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ibadan. He also obtained a Master of Arts degree in Conflict, Security and Development from King’s College, London.

He is an alumnus of the African Leadership Centre (ALC) at King’s College, London and Nairobi, Kenya.

His research interests include conflict, security and governance studies; African politics and international relations; human rights, gender and sexuality studies; and public policy development and analysis.

Professor Akanji has received several research fellowships and grants both locally and internationally. He is a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Research and Policy Integration in Africa (IRPIA), Northern Illinois University, USA.

He previously served as a Senior Research Fellow at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Abuja, Nigeria, and as a Senior Research Associate of African Diplomacy and Foreign Policy at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Johannesburg.

Professor Akanji has published extensively in credible local and international academic outlets.

He has risen through the academic ranks and made significant contributions to academia while also serving in various administrative capacities at the university.

He assumed office as Dean of the Faculty of The Social Sciences, University of Ibadan, on August 1, 2026.
