Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Awuzie, Bags Chieftaincy Title from Igwe of Ufuma

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has been honoured with a prestigious chieftaincy title by the Ufuma community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has been honoured with a prestigious chieftaincy title by the Ufuma community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Dr. Awuzie was conferred with the title “Ugo Mmuta”—translated as the rising eagle of knowledge and inspiration—by His Royal Highness, Igwe S. Chika Uchime (Diji III of Ufuma) during the community’s annual cultural celebration, “Oriri Ngwucha Aho Ovume,” held on Thursday, 2 January 2026.

The colourful ceremony attracted dignitaries from across the state and featured elaborate cultural displays that highlighted the rich traditions and heritage of the Ufuma people.

According to the traditional ruler, the chieftaincy honour was bestowed on the Rector in recognition of her transformative leadership, particularly her role in infrastructural renewal, institutional revitalisation, and academic development at the Ufuma Campus of the Federal Polytechnic Oko.

While presenting the title, Igwe Uchime described Dr. Awuzie as an uncommon achiever and a Rector with a difference, noting that her passion for education, innovation, and community development made her worthy of the honour.

Dr. Awuzie attended the event alongside her husband, Chief Fidelis Awuzie, her children, members of the Polytechnic’s Management and Governing Council, as well as staff of the institution.

In her acceptance remarks, the Rector expressed profound gratitude to the Ufuma community and its traditional leadership, stating that the recognition has further strengthened her resolve to contribute more meaningfully to educational advancement, human capacity development, and societal transformation.

She reaffirmed her commitment to sustaining reforms at the Federal Polytechnic Oko and fostering stronger ties between the institution and its host communities.

The event concluded with traditional dances, music, and cultural performances, underscoring the significance of the occasion and the esteem in which the Ufuma community holds the Rector.
