SERVICOM National Coordinator Advocates Excellent Service Delivery at Adeyemi Varsity

The Acting National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the SERVICOM Office, Nigeria, Mrs. Helen Lawal, has stressed the need for the management, staff and students of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, to always render excellent service, stating that the move would boost the image of the institution and enhance its patronage.

Lawal, who was represented by Mrs. Kikelomo Aina, gave the charge on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, during the inauguration of the SERVICOM Unit and the launch of the reviewed Service Charter of AFUED at the institution.

Speaking on the importance of excellent service delivery in the university environment, Aina said students, parents, staff, researchers and visitors interact with the institution through several service points, making quality service a collective responsibility.

“In a university environment, service delivery goes beyond teaching and learning. Students, parents, staff, researchers and visitors interact with the institution through various service points, including admission, registration, examinations, finance, student affairs, ICT, health and administrative services.

“Therefore, service excellence must be the responsibility of everyone, not the SERVICOM Unit alone.”

Lawal congratulated the university community on the inauguration, describing the establishment of the SERVICOM Unit and the launch of the reviewed Service Charter as an important step towards strengthening service delivery at AFUED.

Also speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of AFUED, Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola, expressed appreciation to the SERVICOM officials for considering the university worthy of the initiative and congratulated members of the university community on the milestone.

Popoola charged the newly inaugurated SERVICOM Unit to be proactive, visible and responsive to the needs of members of the university community.

The Vice-Chancellor also urged the University SERVICOM members to encourage constructive feedback, stressing that complaints should not be viewed as attacks on the university, but as opportunities for improvement.

“You have indeed brought civilization to our community, complaints should not be seen as an attack on the university, constructive criticism is what I expect you all to imbibe,” he said.

The University Administrator further stated that for the objectives for which SERVICOM was launched to be achieved in the institution, suggestion boxes would be strategically placed across the campus to encourage members of the university community to freely communicate their observations, concerns and suggestions.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the National Universities Commission (NUC) PSC, Mr. Iliyasu Musa, commended the management and the Vice-Chancellor for approving the inauguration of the SERVICOM Unit and the launch of the reviewed Service Charter in the institution.

Musa urged the SERVICOM members to remain committed to the aims and objectives for which the initiative was established.

He noted that among the former Federal Colleges of Education that have been upgraded to university status, “AFUED is the first, to inaugurate a SERVICOM Unit and launch a Service Charter.” He described the development as commendable.

The University Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Olukemi Fakorede, in her remarks, explained that SERVICOM, which was established by the Federal Government in 2004, was designed to promote efficient, timely, fair and transparent public service delivery.

According to her, the initiative reminds every member of staff of the responsibility to serve with professionalism, courtesy, integrity and dedication.

She described the launch as a significant milestone in AFUED’s journey towards becoming a world-class University of Education that is not only academically sound but also service-driven.

“This launch is therefore a milestone in our journey towards building a world-class University of Education that is not only academically sound, but also service-driven. I humbly urge all staff to embrace the principles and standards contained in the Service Charter,” she said.

In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr. Kayode Bolarinwa, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and members of the University Management for their support towards the successful inauguration and launch of the initiative.

Bolarinwa also acknowledged the contributions of the Acting National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of SERVICOM, Mrs. Helen Lawal; the Chairman of the NUC PSC, Mr. Iliyasu Musa; and members of staff of the university.

He called for stronger synergy among University SERVICOM members, the Directorate, Management, staff and students, noting that effective collaboration would be essential to sustaining the principles of responsive, transparent and people-centred service delivery at AFUED.

The inauguration and launch of the SERVICOM Unit, described as a new phase in the university’s institutional commitment to strengthening accountability, responsiveness and service excellence, also featured a lecture presentation by the Acting National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of SERVICOM, Mrs. Helen Lawal.
