Tragedy Deepens as Key Suspect in Taraba Student’s Death Found Dead
A disturbing twist has emerged in the case of Comfort Jimtop, a 100-level Mass Communication student at Taraba State University, following the discovery of the body of Emmanuel Kefas — the primary suspect in her death.
Kefas was found dead on Friday in Tudiri, a community in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State. His death, under unclear circumstances, has intensified public anxiety and added a new layer of tragedy to an already painful story. Police confirmed the discovery on Saturday.
According to James Lashen, spokesperson for the Taraba State Police Command, a Tecno Android phone was found beside the body. After charging the device, investigators found a photo of Kefas with the late Jimtop, suggesting a romantic connection between them.
The body has been transferred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Jalingo for an autopsy, and efforts are underway to confirm the identity with the help of Kefas’s family.
Authorities have not yet determined whether Kefas’s death was a suicide, homicide, or accident. Investigations into both deaths remain active.
Comfort Jimtop’s death had earlier triggered protests across the university and among civil society groups demanding justice. Kefas was declared the prime suspect in the case, but his sudden death has now left the investigation in a cloud of uncertainty.
As both deaths remain unsolved, students, activists, and residents are urging a transparent and thorough inquiry to uncover the full truth and deliver justice.
