UCH Marks 2025 World Hospice and Palliative Care Day with Community Outreach
The University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, in collaboration with its Department of Hospice and Palliative Care, joined the global community to commemorate the 2025 World Hospice and Palliative Care Day with a flag-off ceremony held at the hospital foyer on Friday, October 10, 2025.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Department, Dr. Yetunde Oloyede, announced the theme for this year’s celebration as “Achieving the Promise: Universal Access to Palliative Care.” She explained that the commemoration includes several community-based activities such as local government outreach programmes, free consultations, and basic medical tests for residents in selected areas.
Dr. Oloyede emphasized the importance of expanding access to palliative care services, particularly for patients in underserved communities, stressing that quality end-of-life care is a fundamental part of healthcare equity.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, congratulated members of the Department of Hospice and Palliative Care for their dedication and reaffirmed the hospital management’s continuous support toward advancing palliative care services at UCH.
