The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) has officially matriculated more than 8,000 students into its academic programmes for the 2025/2026 session, following a competitive selection process from over 30,000 applicants.

Speaking at the Convocation Ground during the matriculation ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Professor Hakeem Fawehinmi urged the new students to uphold discipline, pursue excellence, and embrace the university’s values throughout their academic journey.

Prof. Fawehinmi described the matriculation as a key milestone for the students and a reaffirmation of UNIABUJA’s mission to foster national unity and intellectual development. He explained that the limited admissions were necessary to maintain academic standards while ensuring quality education.

Highlighting ongoing institutional improvements, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the university is enhancing its ICT infrastructure through strategic partnerships, including with Galaxy Backbone, to improve access to digital learning and research resources.

Addressing accommodation challenges, he revealed that the university is collaborating with agencies like TETFund and exploring public-private partnerships to expand and upgrade hostel facilities. He also emphasized that student security remains a top priority.

Prof. Fawehinmi warned that UNIABUJA maintains zero tolerance for indiscipline, including cultism, examination malpractice, sexual harassment, drug abuse, and other antisocial behaviors. He reminded students that their academic success is tied to both character and learning, urging them to honour their matriculation oath.

“From today, you are an integral part of this University, and your conduct will be under public scrutiny. Uphold the values of this reputable institution and let excellence define your journey,” he said.

The ceremony marks the beginning of a rigorous and transformative academic experience for the new entrants, reinforcing UNIABUJA’s commitment to high standards, holistic education, and societal impact.
