UNILORIN VC Warns Private Hostel Operators Against Early Fee Collection For 2026/2027 Session

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has cautioned private hostel operators against collecting accommodation fees for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic session prior to the Senate's official release of student good-standing lists.

Addressing hostel owners on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor described early fee collection as an attempt to undermine university authority and academic processes. He said the practice creates unnecessary pressure on students and their parents, and could lead to complications for students who may not eventually qualify for accommodation.

Professor Egbewole directed any operator who has already collected advance payments to refund the affected students within 72 hours. He stressed that the University remains committed to ensuring transparency, order, and fairness in the allocation of accommodation and other student services.

The Vice-Chancellor further warned that failure to comply with the directive would attract sanctions, including withdrawal of recognition and delisting of such hostels from the University's approved list of off-campus accommodation providers.

Replying on behalf of the operators, Association Chairman, Mr Williams Adedeji, acknowledged the University's position. He assured the management of total compliance across all facilities and pledged that operators would await the official release of the good-standing list before commencing fee collection for the new session.

The University management reiterated its resolve to protect students' interests and to maintain discipline in all matters relating to student welfare and accommodation.
