UNIMAID Hosts SIWES Orientation to Prepare Science Students for Industrial Training
The management of University of Maiduguri has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping students with practical skills and professional experience through the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) for Science and Technology students ahead of their industrial training exercise.
This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, during the SIWES orientation programme held for science students on 14th May, 2026, at the Institute of Education Hall of the university.
Represented by the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Ahmed Brono, the Vice Chancellor explained that the orientation was aimed at preparing students for industrial training by providing them with the necessary guidelines, expectations, and best practices required for a successful SIWES experience.
Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele congratulated the students and urged them to make effective use of the knowledge gained during the orientation programme.
In his remarks, the Director of SIWES,
Professor Abdul Dauda, stated that the programme was designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real world industrial practice. He added that SIWES is not just a graduation requirement, but also an opportunity for students to apply theoretical knowledge in solving practical challenges.

Also speaking during the orientation, the Area Manager of the Industrial Training Fund in Borno State, Halima Ismail Mohammed, enlightened students on the rules of engagement, safety procedures, and documentation processes. She further warned against absenteeism, falsification of records, and abandoning assigned places of attachment without official approval.
