UI Professor Godwin Ogbole Makes History as First Indigenous African ISMRM Senior Fellow

Professor Godwin Ogbole, a distinguished Professor of Radiology and Consultant Neuroradiologist at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI) and University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, has made history as the first indigenous African to be conferred with the Senior Fellow Award by the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM). 

The prestigious honour was officially conferred on May 11, 2026, during the ISMRM global assembly in Cape Town, South Africa. The award recognizes Professor Ogbole's pioneering work in expanding clinical Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) access, capacity building, and adapting medical protocols for low-resource settings across the African continent.

In addition to his clinical roles in Ibadan, Professor Ogbole has held research fellowships at Harvard Medical School, the University of Oxford, and the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He is also the first African member of the Neuroimaging Task Force of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), where he has actively shaped global guidelines for epilepsy imaging. 

His latest international recognition cements CoMUI’s profile as a premier hub for medical research, innovation, and global health leadership on the continent.
