UNIMAID Language Centre Hosts Workshop on Forensic Linguistics for Security and Judicial Experts

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele declared open a two days training workshop organised by the Unimaid Language Centre in partnership with the North East Development Commission with the theme "Forensic Linguistics in Intelligence, Legal and Counte-insurgency Operations: Training for Security and Judicial Experts in Borno State", held at the Muhammadu Indimi International Conference Centre on the 3rd December, 2025.

 

Professor Mele who served as the Chief Host of the occasion in his opening remarks welcomed and acknowledged the participants and facilitators for their dedication and expertise. He also hoped that the training would equip the participants with both basic and important forensic linguistics knowledge to enhance their investigation process and strengthen institutional capabilities, and promote reliable digital communication practices. Professor Mele then appreciated the North East development commission for supporting the university and providing human development projects in the northeast.

The Director of the Centre, Professor Jidda Hassan stated that Forensic Linguistics plays a crucial role in security and legal investigations by helping experts solve complex challenges. The training is designed to equip law enforcement agencies and legal practitioners with essential forensic linguistics techniques for evaluating and interpreting language base evidence.

The keynote Speaker Professor Usman A. Tar noted that there is a significant need for knowledge sharing through workshops and capacity building training on forensic linguistics for security personnel and judicial experts to enhance intelligence and counter insurgency operations, as well as ensure transparent judicial processes.
