UNIMAID to Host NAH National Conference, VC Calls for Focus on Water-Related Diseases

The University of Maiduguri will host the National Annual Conference of the Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists, NAH.

The President of the Association, Mrs. Fashe-Adam F., disclosed this when she led members of the National Executive Council on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammed Laminu Mele, on Wednesday, 30th September 2026.

Mrs. Fashe said the conference will hold at the Muhammadu Indimi International Conference Centre, adding that the decision to return to Maiduguri for the second time was deliberate as the Association seeks to identify with the resilience of Borno State and contribute its professional expertise to the sustainable development of the North-East.

She noted that the conference will bring together academics, researchers, industry experts, policymakers and students from within and outside Nigeria, and formally invited the Vice-Chancellor to attend the opening ceremony as a Distinguished Guest.

Responding, Professor Mele welcomed the delegation and assured the Association of the University’s readiness to support the conference and provide necessary cooperation.

The Vice-Chancellor urged the Association to use the conference to address critical challenges relating to water and kidney-related diseases affecting communities in the North-East, noting that research and professional discussions could help provide practical solutions.
