University of Ibadan Set to Deepen Global Research Collaboration with University of France

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, has reaffirmed that the institution is a research-intensive university committed to advancing innovation through global partnerships and collaborative scholarship.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, has reaffirmed that the institution is a research-intensive university committed to advancing innovation through global partnerships and collaborative scholarship.

Professor Adebowale made this known while receiving a two-member delegation from the University of France, led by its Vice President, Professor Kouchner Antoine, on a courtesy visit to his office.

He explained that the University of Ibadan continues to strengthen its research capacity by fostering linkages, networking, and strategic collaborations both locally and internationally. He added that UI’s structure aligns with global academic trends, reflected in the steady expansion of its faculties and programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the institution is transitioning toward a postgraduate-focused university, reducing undergraduate admissions while expanding postgraduate enrolment to support advanced research and innovation. According to him, this aligns with UI’s vision to produce high-calibre researchers capable of shaping academia and national development.

He disclosed that the University of Ibadan, a member of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA), is working toward formalizing a partnership with the University of France through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement will cover areas such as joint research, staff and student exchanges, curriculum development, and collaborative academic programmes.

Professor Adebowale expressed appreciation to the visiting delegation, describing the University of Ibadan as a natural partner for research-driven collaboration and innovation in Nigeria and Africa.

In his remarks, Professor Antoine commended the University of Ibadan’s commitment to research and academic excellence. He stated that the University of France, which also maintains strong ties with ARUA, seeks to deepen engagement with African institutions, particularly those in anglophone regions.

He added that his university offers programmes across health, science, social sciences, and the humanities and looks forward to establishing a strong and sustainable academic relationship with the University of Ibadan.
