University of Ibadan Vice-Chancellor Highlights Importance of Transport Services to Campus Life

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, has underscored the critical role of transport services in the smooth running of the institution, describing them as central to both academic and administrative life.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, has underscored the critical role of transport services in the smooth running of the institution, describing them as central to both academic and administrative life.

He made the remark while receiving the newly elected executives of the Campus Cab Association, led by the Chairman of the Inter-Campus Transport Committee (ICTC), Professor Olumide Olajide, during a courtesy visit. Professor Olajide noted that the elections that produced the new leadership were free and fair, adding that the ICTC had continued to explore innovative ways to ease transportation stress and reduce costs, including efforts to introduce electric tricycles, though such attempts had faced setbacks.

In his response, Professor Adebowale acknowledged the persistent challenges of campus transportation, ranging from student demands to rising fares and the introduction of alternative fuel or electric vehicles. He further stressed the University’s commitment to safety, revealing ongoing discussions with the Federal Road Safety Corps to organise training for transport operators.

The Vice-Chancellor added that the University is also planning periodic medical checks and safety awareness programmes for drivers, covering issues such as zebra crossings, speed limits, and strict adherence to traffic regulations. He warned against reckless driving and the use of intoxicating substances while on duty.

The newly elected executives of the Campus Cab Association include Mr. Ogunleke Serafi (Chairman), Mr. Ademubowi (Vice Chairman), Mr. Morakinyo Surajudeen (General Secretary), Mr. Ogunbunmi Muideen (Treasurer), Mr. Ladepo A. Augustine (Assistant General Secretary), Mr. Adelakim Adesoji (Financial Secretary), Mr. Mumeen Adeola Kareem (Public Relations Officer), Mr. Ayemorode Alakitan Victor (Auditor), and Mr. Obi Joseph (Welfare Officer).
