UNIZIK Nursing Faculty Commends VC, Seeks More Facilities Ahead of NMCN Accreditation

The Faculty of Nursing Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), has expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, for his support and commitment to the establishment and development of the Faculty.

The Acting Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Florence T. Sibeudu, led members of the Faculty Management Team and Heads of Departments on an appreciation visit to the Vice-Chancellor, where they also discussed the Faculty’s facilities and preparations for its forthcoming accreditation exercise by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), expected in September.

Prof. Sibeudu recalled that the establishment of the Faculty had been pursued for several years.

She noted that following an earlier engagement with the Vice-Chancellor, the necessary memoranda were retrieved and processed, leading to the establishment of the Faculty within a relatively short period.

The Acting Dean expressed appreciation to Prof. Anyaehie for his commitment to the actualisation of the Faculty, adding that preparations were already in top gear for the forthcoming NMCN accreditation exercise.

Prof. Sibeudu, however, noted that additional facilities and equipment would be required to meet the accreditation requirements.

Among the outstanding needs identified were:

• A dedicated Faculty building
• Office furniture
• Buses
• A Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre for examinations

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie, assured the delegation of the University Administration’s continued support towards ensuring that the Faculty meets the requirements for accreditation.

Prof. Anyaehie disclosed that provision had already been made for a bus for the Faculty, while urging its management to judiciously utilise the resources currently available and prioritise the most critical requirements for the accreditation exercise.

He further assured the delegation that efforts would continue towards providing the outstanding facilities, expressing confidence that the remaining requirements would be addressed by the following year.

On the proposed CBT Centre, the Vice-Chancellor directed the Faculty to identify a suitable space for its establishment.

He assured the delegation that the University would work towards developing the facility to support the Faculty’s examination needs.

Onyeje; Head of Department, Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, Prof. Noreen Agbapuonwu; Head of Department, Medical and Surgical Nursing, Dr Ngozi E. Makala; Head of Department, Maternal and Child Health Nursing, Dr Chika C. H. Odira; and Acting Head of Department, Nursing Education, Administration and Research, Dr John E. Anieche.
