The Nnamdi Azikiwe University has been selected by a campus cinema distribution company as one of the preferred institutions in the South-East for the screening of Nollywood blockbuster movies within the university environment.

The initiative is designed to enhance student life by bringing premium cinematic experiences closer to students and promoting recreational engagement on campus.

The development was disclosed during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, by a delegation led by Prof. Alvan-Ikoku Nwamara of the Department of Music.

During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed the initiative and directed the team to collaborate with deans of selected faculties whose lecture halls possess the required facilities for hosting cinema screenings.

Following the directive, approvals were reportedly secured at faculty level, paving the way for the commencement of the project within the university community.

The initiative is being coordinated through the Office of the Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor on New Media, led by Ekene Ezeumeanya and his team.

University officials noted that the campus cinema project is expected to contribute to a more vibrant campus culture by combining entertainment with social engagement and creative exposure for students.

The programme will also provide students with easier access to contemporary Nollywood productions while encouraging community interaction and leisure activities within the university environment.

The partnership further reflects the growing interest among tertiary institutions in creating more balanced academic and social experiences for students through collaborations with the entertainment and creative industries.
