UNIZIK Strengthens Nigeria–Brazil Academic Collaboration at International Conference in Brazil
Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, Awka, has taken another significant step in advancing its internationalisation agenda with its active participation in the 4th LASUCAS International Conference held from July 1 to 3, 2026, at the Federal University of Bahia, UFBA, Salvador, Brazil.
The conference convened distinguished scholars, policymakers, researchers, and academic leaders from Nigeria, Brazil, and other emerging economies to explore innovative pathways for strengthening South–South cooperation through education, research, innovation, and cultural diplomacy.
Representing the University at the conference were the Coordinator of the Brazilian Language and Cultural Centre, Prof. Obianuju Emmanuela Agbasi, and Prof. Uchechukwu Collins Nwogwugwu of the Institute of Social Policy and Strategic Studies.

A major highlight of the conference was the presentation delivered by Prof. Agbasi on Nigeria–Brazil Economic Relations. Her presentation underscored the strategic importance of trade, education, technology, agriculture, and cultural diplomacy in fostering stronger bilateral relations and promoting sustainable development between both countries.
The conference also served as a strategic platform for strengthening institutional partnerships among participating universities. Discussions focused on collaborative research, postgraduate education, faculty and student exchange programmes, academic networking, and the development of sustainable international partnerships capable of addressing shared developmental challenges.
One of the most notable outcomes of the conference was the approval by the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, LASU, to provide institutional support for the establishment and advancement of the Brazilian Language and Cultural Centre at Nnamdi Azikiwe University. The initiative is expected to further strengthen linguistic, cultural, academic, and research collaboration between Nigeria and Brazil.
UNIZIK's participation in the conference reflects the University's growing global visibility and commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and international collaboration. It also reinforces the institution's resolve to build strategic partnerships that will enrich teaching, expand research opportunities, enhance staff and student mobility, and promote intercultural understanding.
As the University continues to expand its global footprint, the outcomes of the 4th LASUCAS International Conference are expected to open new frontiers for international cooperation while further positioning Nnamdi Azikiwe University as a leading centre of excellence committed to producing globally competitive graduates and impactful research through meaningful South–South partnerships.
