The University of Nigeria, Nsukka Students' union government have called for calm amongst Students in light of the shuttle price increase within the school.

Myschoolnews reports shuttle drivers had increased fares by a sizeable amount after the increase in pump prices of fuel across the country.

Fuel prices had recently increased from N180 per litre to as high as N600 per litre in most petrol stations, leading to scarcity of shuttle buses and forcing students who relied on them to adopt alternate means of transport.

Suing for calm the SUG president of the institution, Comr. Abuchi Michael in a Facebook post on Friday (Today) stated:

"Dear Lions and Lionesses,

We understand that the recent increase in transport fare by the UNN shuttle drivers has caused inconvenience and difficulties for many of you. We want to assure you that we are aware of the situation and are taking immediate steps to address it.

"The Office of the SUG Director of Transport (DOT) has already reached out to the shuttle drivers this morning, pleading with them to revert to the normal fare until after a scheduled meeting between the school administration and the shuttle drivers association. This meeting aims to find a reasonable compromise that protects the interests of both the university community and the shuttle drivers.

"However, despite our efforts, the shuttle drivers have insisted on embarking on an industrial strike until after the scheduled meeting with the school management. As a result, many students are left with no choice but to trek to school and may experience delays and inconveniences at the shuttle park.

"We understand your frustration and want to assure you that we are doing everything in our power to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. We kindly request your patience and understanding during this challenging time. We urge you to explore alternative transportation options, carpooling, or forming study groups to minimize the impact of the current situation.

"Rest assured, we are actively engaging with the shuttle drivers and the school administration to find a resolution that is fair and beneficial for all parties involved. We will keep you updated on any developments and measures taken to address the transportation issue.

"We appreciate your understanding, cooperation, and resilience during this challenging period. Together, as a united student community, we will overcome this hurdle and continue to strive for academic excellence."

Yours in service,

Comr. Abuchi Micheal C

SUG PRESIDENT UNN
