ABSU Senate Suspends Change of Course into Six Professional Programmes

The Senate of Abia State University (ABSU) has approved the suspension of inter-departmental and inter-faculty transfers into six professional programmes in the institution.

The affected programmes are Medicine and Surgery, Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Law and Nursing Sciences.

The decision followed a recommendation by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, at the 288th Regular Meeting of the University Senate held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Senate Chamber.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the suspension became necessary following the discontinuation by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of the issuance of fresh admission letters to transfer students.

He explained that the development makes it impossible for the university to process such transfers in accordance with the current admission requirements.

Professor Okeudo further noted that the approved admission quotas for the affected programmes are ordinarily filled during the first-year admission process through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
