UI DVC Commends Morayo Afolabi-Brown for Promoting Positive Conversations

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Juwon T. Arotiba, FWACS, FICD, has commended Mrs. Morayo Afolabi-Brown and her team for promoting positive conversations aimed at driving societal transformation.

He gave the commendation on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, during a courtesy visit by Mrs. Afolabi-Brown to the Vice-Chancellor's office ahead of her engagement with students of the university.

Professor Arotiba stated that the university remained committed to its core mandates of teaching, research and community service, while emphasising the importance of character development among its students.

He noted that education should extend beyond academic learning to include the development of character, values and other qualities needed to prepare students for life and leadership.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor commended the television host and her team for promoting positive narratives through her show, praising her decision to bring inspiring conversations to the university community to motivate UI students.

He added that narratives about Nigeria often focus on negative developments while overlooking the positive things happening across the country. He described the Morayo Show as an admirable effort to change that narrative.

The Founder of MAB Studios, Mrs. Morayo Afolabi-Brown, disclosed that she had spent more than 20 years in the media industry, including 12 years as the host of “Your View” on Television Continental (TVC), before resigning in August 2025 to host “The Morayo Show”, a daily live talk programme launched in December 2025.

According to her, The Morayo Show is broadcast live on YouTube from Monday to Thursday and is also aired on eight television stations across Nigeria.

She explained that the show was created to counter the largely combative tone of many talk shows by focusing instead on celebrating everyday Nigerians and highlighting young people doing commendable work.

The programme blends music, humour and real-life stories in presenting its conversations.

The television host said the tour was conceived to promote conversations that highlight positive stories and encourage Nigerians to look beyond the challenges facing the country.

She noted that although there were genuine difficulties in society, public discourse should also create opportunities to recognise achievements, inspire hope and encourage individuals to bring out the best in themselves.

Mrs. Afolabi-Brown explained that the encouraging response to the show since its launch prompted the team to take it beyond the studio through a tour designed to connect with audiences, particularly young people, across different locations.

Speaking on the choice of Ibadan as the first point of call, she described the visit to UI as an opportunity to acknowledge the institution's contributions to education and society.

She noted that the team considered it important to interact with students and members of the university community.

Mrs. Afolabi-Brown said some conversations bring out the best in people, stressing the need to encourage young Nigerians to recognise their potential and contribute meaningfully to national development.
