LASU Epe Campus to Receive 200 Computers as NITDA Approves Digital Innovation Hub

Lagos State University (LASU) is set to establish a Digital Innovation Hub at its Epe Campus following approval by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Abuja, for the provision of 200 desktop computers and other essential digital infrastructure.

The intervention, facilitated by the university’s Chancellor, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Telade IV, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Epe Division, Lagos State, is expected to strengthen digital learning, research and technological innovation while equipping students with relevant digital skills.

Following the approval, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo, FCASSON, FAPROCON, MNAE, authorised the necessary institutional preparations and directed relevant units to take appropriate steps towards ensuring the successful implementation of the project.

The Vice-Chancellor’s response reflects her administration’s commitment to translating strategic partnerships and external support into improvements in teaching, learning, research and students’ overall educational experience.

Chancellor’s Intervention Secures NITDA Approval

The approval followed a formal request by the Chancellor to NITDA’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, seeking digital infrastructure support for the university’s Epe Campus.

In his request, Oba Ogunsanwo highlighted the need to bridge the digital infrastructure gap and equip students with the tools to become creators and innovators rather than merely consumers of technology. He also reaffirmed the university’s readiness to provide the institutional support required for the project’s implementation and long-term sustainability.

The proposed facility is expected to feature 200 desktop computer systems, appropriate software, printers, interactive learning boards, reliable internet connectivity, a solar-powered inverter system, air-conditioning units, chairs, tables and other supporting facilities.

When operational, the Hub is expected to expand access to computing resources for students and staff while providing an enabling environment for practical ICT training, digital literacy, academic research and collaborative learning.

The software and interactive learning boards will support practical instruction, demonstrations and technology-enabled teaching. Reliable internet connectivity will improve access to online learning materials, digital libraries, research databases and other educational resources, while the solar-powered inverter system will provide supporting power infrastructure.

The facility is also expected to create opportunities for student innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration and the development of technology-based solutions to real-world problems. Depending on the programmes and operational arrangements established by the university, it could support practical activities in programming, data analysis, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and other computing-related fields.

With digital competencies and technological innovation becoming increasingly important in higher education and graduate employability, the proposed Hub is expected to help students develop relevant practical skills and strengthen the connection between academic learning and technological advancement.

The initiative aligns with LASU’s broader commitment to institutional development, digital transformation and improved educational delivery. It also highlights the importance of providing students across the university’s campuses with access to modern learning facilities and opportunities to develop practical technological competencies.

As preparations continue, LASU says it remains committed to providing the necessary institutional support for the successful establishment and effective utilisation of the Digital Innovation Hub at its Epe Campus.
