The Institute of Social Policy and Strategic Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, is set to commence construction of its permanent building following a site inspection by its benefactor, Archbishop Dr. Onyeka Nzekwesi.
Archbishop Nzekwesi, Chief Executive Officer of PINELEAF ESTATE and Presiding Bishop of Jesus Is Alive Church International, is supporting the project through an endowment for the building.
He visited the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, on Friday, October 16, 2026, accompanied by members of his team and staff of the Institute.
During the courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor’s office, the Institute’s Director, Professor Uche Collins Nwogwugwu, explained that the delegation had come to inform the university management about the proposed construction and introduce the benefactor, who had expressed readiness to support the development of the Institute’s permanent building.
Professor Nwogwugwu added that Archbishop Nzekwesi and his team were prepared to inspect the proposed site ahead of the commencement of construction.
Responding, Professor Anyaehie welcomed the initiative, describing it as a commendable contribution that would benefit the university community and society at large.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked the benefactor for his commitment and assured the delegation of the university’s support. He directed the Director of Physical Planning, Engr. Ezeokafor Lawrence, to accompany the team to the proposed site, explaining that an earlier scheduled appointment would prevent him from participating in the inspection.
Professor Anyaehie also encouraged the delegation to seek assistance from the university whenever necessary.
Other members of the delegation included Hon. Titus Akpudo, former PG ASTUC, brother of the benefactor and a friend of the Institute, as well as Mr. Shittu Owolabi, an architect with the university’s Physical Planning Unit, among others.
The proposed building is expected to strengthen the Institute’s infrastructure and support its academic and research activities in social policy and strategic studies.
