ABU Suspends Lectures for Fresh Students Ahead of Matriculation and Orientation

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria has officially declared three lecture-free days for all newly admitted undergraduates of the 2025/2026 academic session to facilitate their full participation in the Matriculation Ceremony and Central University Orientation Programme.

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria has officially declared three lecture-free days for all newly admitted undergraduates of the 2025/2026 academic session to facilitate their full participation in the Matriculation Ceremony and Central University Orientation Programme.

According to a statement from the University Management, the Matriculation Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, 17th February 2026, followed by the Orientation Programme from Wednesday, 18th to Thursday, 19th February 2026. Both events will hold at the Mamman Kontagora Square, Main Campus, Samaru, starting at 9:00 a.m. daily, with students expected to be seated prior to the commencement time.

Participation in the matriculation requires all fresh students to don the academic gown, with a special bulletin released on Monday, 9th February 2026 detailing payment procedures for gown hire and collection.

To ease transportation, university buses will ferry students from Kongo Campus to Samaru Campus by 8:00 a.m., returning them immediately after the day’s events.

Deans of Faculties and Heads of Departments have been directed to enforce full compliance with the lecture-free schedule, ensuring that all new students can fully engage in the ceremonies and orientation activities.

This initiative underscores ABU’s commitment to welcoming new students and providing a smooth transition into university life.
