AE-FUNAI VC Professor Nwachukwu Pledges Hostel Overhaul and New Construction After Surprise Campus Tour

As part of his campus tour geared towards assessing the state of physical infrastructure on campus, the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Daniel Nwachukwu, on Tuesday paid an unscheduled visit to the university hostels, wherein he pledged to revamp the hostels to make it more conducive and habitable for students. 

He also pledged to build additional hostels on campus, to mitigate the pains and exploitation students’ face in the hands of private hostels’ owners outside the campus due to high cost of rents. 

Accompanied by principal officers, the Vice-Chancellor took time to interact with the students in their different halls of residence, availing them the opportunity to air their views and state their challenges, and thereafter promised to intervene in most of the issues within two weeks.

Professor Nwachukwu noted that a university exists because of students, and vowed to improve the living conditions of students. He urged the students to take responsibility of their environment by keeping it clean and neat, rather than being nonchalant and blaming others for dirty surroundings, and assured them of his administration’s commitment to providing them with a conducive learning environment.

The students, who were visibly surprised, but very happy for the visit, commended the Vice-Chancellor for the gesture, noting that it was the first time a Vice-Chancellor of the university visited to find out how they were fairing in their hostels. They therefore promised to be of good behavior, and work with the administration to ensure peace on campus.
