AFUED to Renovate Student Hostels, Strengthen Campus Security

The management of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, has announced plans to renovate several student hostels as part of efforts to improve students’ welfare and campus facilities.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, disclosed this on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, while speaking at the September edition of the institution’s monthly prayer meeting.

Prof. Popoola expressed gratitude to God for the progress recorded by the university and for protecting its staff and students since the beginning of 2026. He also commended the men of God responsible for organising the monthly programme and prayed that God would continue to increase their anointing.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the commitment of his administration to prioritising the security and welfare of staff and students, while appealing for the continued cooperation and support of stakeholders to enable the university to achieve its goals and aspirations.

He also called on staff and students to work together with the university management and security personnel, noting that such cooperation would contribute to the overall safety of the institution.

Prof. Popoola urged workers and students to wear their identity cards at all times, explaining that the measure would help security personnel identify bona fide members of the university community.

“Our identity cards are very important. We want to ensure that the people who come to the campus are bona fide workers and students of the institution, so we expect everybody to put on their identity card. We have instructed security people to challenge anyone who is not wearing his or her identity card,” he said.

On the entry and exit of people and vehicles, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the university was putting a new arrangement in place under which every vehicle entering the campus would be required to register at the gate.

Speaking on students’ welfare, Prof. Popoola said the university was also working to improve healthcare services at its Health Centre and plans to engage more medical doctors to attend to the growing student population.

“Your welfare is very important to us. We are putting in place some facilities at the Health Centre, and we intend to get more medical Doctors to attend to our Students’ teeming population,” he said.

He further disclosed that several student hostels would undergo renovation after students complete their examinations, noting that the university had secured funding from TETFund for the projects.

“The hostels will be undergoing some renovations as soon as you finish your exams, we’ve got some money from TETFund, so many of the hostels will be renovated between now and the time you will start a new session,” he stated.

The Vice-Chancellor also assured members of staff that his administration would continue to give priority to their needs and appealed for their understanding and cooperation.

Emphasising the importance of prayer, Prof. Popoola urged staff and students to continue praying for the university’s management, explaining that the administration was making efforts to address the institution’s needs despite financial constraints.

“We just wish that everyone will understand this, and then continue to pray for the University’s management. God has been helping us and I believe that He will continue to help us,” he remarked.

Earlier, a senior member of the university’s prayer committee, Pastor Paul Adebayo, stressed the need for staff and students to maintain a close relationship with God despite the socio-economic and security challenges facing Nigeria.

Adebayo cited several Bible passages, including 2 Kings 4:33-37, Proverbs 3:27 and Isaiah 40:28-29, to support his message and encouraged members of the congregation to maintain their faith in God.

“Whatever you are passing through, God is involved,” he said.

He also reminded the congregation that “all power belongs to God” and urged staff and students not to despair as they entered the month of September and the ember months.

“Be confident as you go into ember months, don’t be afraid because God is on our side,” he stated.

The prayer meeting, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Auditorium, featured songs, Bible reading, exhortation and prayers for the university, its management, staff and students, the Ondo community, Ondo State and Nigeria.

The programme also featured the recognition of members of the congregation born in September, followed by prayers for them.

Principal officers present at the occasion included the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao; Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; and Librarian, Dr. Azino Akpokuriere.

Also present were Deans and Directors, Heads of Departments, Divisions and Units, as well as staff and students from various departments of the university.
