AGAD Organises Career Development Workshop for Final-Year Students0

The Department of Agricultural Administration (AGAD), College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), has organised a Career Development Workshop for its 500-Level students as part of efforts to equip prospective graduates with the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to transition successfully from academic life to the professional world.

The workshop, held on June 9, 2026, at the Green Chamber, brought together final-year students and career development experts for a series of practical sessions designed to prepare participants for life after graduation. Attendance at the programme was made compulsory for all 500-Level students, with participation linked to their eligibility for the final-year project defence.

Speaking on the rationale behind the initiative, the Department noted that the programme was designed to expose students to contemporary career opportunities and provide them with the necessary tools to navigate the increasingly competitive job market.

A major highlight of the workshop was a hands-on session on crafting compelling Curriculum Vitae (CV), where students were guided on how to effectively present their qualifications, skills, and experiences in ways that attract the attention of prospective employers.

Participants were also taken through interview preparation strategies, learning practical techniques for handling job interviews, communicating effectively, and projecting confidence during recruitment processes.

Another session focused on job search and application procedures, providing students with valuable insights into identifying employment opportunities, tailoring job applications, and leveraging professional networks and digital platforms to secure suitable positions.

In addition, the workshop introduced students to scholarship application processes, exposing them to available opportunities for further studies and professional development while highlighting the requirements and strategies for submitting successful applications.

A unique aspect of the programme was the discussion on Ikigai, a Japanese concept that refers to an individual's "reason for being." Students were guided through exercises aimed at helping them identify their passions, strengths, values, and career aspirations in order to make informed life and career decisions.

The students expressed profound appreciation to the Department for organising the workshop and investing in their personal and professional development. They described the sessions on interview preparation, job search strategies, scholarship opportunities, and personal career development as highly enlightening and impactful.
