Ahmadu Bello University Faculty of Education Celebrates 60th Anniversary, VC Hails Contributions to Nigeria's Development
The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prof. Kabiru Bala, has commended the Faculty of Education for its indelible and multifaceted contributions to Nigeria's educational development. The VC's remarks came during the Faculty's Diamond Jubilee celebration, marking 60 years since its establishment.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Raymond B. Bako, Prof. Bala highlighted the Faculty's instrumental role in breakthroughs in education in Northern Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa. He congratulated award recipients and urged them to continue striving for excellence.
The Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. H.I. Bayero, noted that the Faculty has produced outstanding alumni, including Senators Ibrahim Shekarau and Umaru Tanko Almakura, who have made significant contributions to national development. Prof. Bayero emphasized the Faculty's commitment to excellence, integrity, and nation-building.
In a Diamond Jubilee lecture, Prof. A.A.M. Shaibu identified human capital development, economic growth, and improved health as areas where education plays a crucial role in national development. He highlighted challenges such as access to quality education, investing in education, and curriculum reforms.
The Faculty of Education was established in 1968 with two departments: Education and Library Science. Over the years, it has contributed significantly to national development through qualitative education and research-based activities .
