Arewa Students Forum Honors UNIMAID Vice-Chancellor for Academic Leadership

The Vice Chancellor, University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, received a delegation of Arewa Students Forum on a courtesy visit on Wednesday, January 21st 2026 in his office, at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building.

Welcoming the delegation, Professor Mele expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the forum for its commitment to youth development, peace, and academic excellence across northern Nigeria and assured them that the university management would give them all necessary support for the development of the forum.

The Vice Chancellor thanked the Arewa Students Forum for the award and honour bestowed on him. He then urged the forum to continue sensitizing students on the importance of education, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, and AI robotics. He emphasized cooperation and dialogue as tools for national development and reaffirmed the university's readiness to support students' organizations committed for positive growth.

The president of the Arewa Students Forum, Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi from Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, highlighted that the Forum is representing students from across the northern Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory. The visit he said was to appreciate the Vice Chancellor for his outstanding services to students and youth across the country, particularly in the educational sector and noted that the Vice Chancellor’s leadership style and dedication to development had positively impacted students nationwide.

He added that the forum carries out sensitization programmes on examination malpractice, leadership training, and campaign against cultism, use and abuse of drugs. The Forum also engages in career guidance initiatives and community outreach programmes, including visits to internally displaced persons IDP camps and often in collaboration with NGOs.

One of the essence of the visit he added was to confer on Professor Mele, the award of grand commander of the Arewa Students Forum GCO in recognition of his leadership and contribution to the transformation of the University.

   

Comrade Abubakar, described the VC as courageous, charismatic and compassionate leader and role model, whose commitment has positively impacted the institution. He also presented a certificate of honour to Professor Mele on behalf of the Forum.
