Bayero University Kano Celebrates Zainab Hammed, Faculty of Law Best Graduating Student

Zainab Hammed has emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Law at Bayero University Kano (BUK) for the 2025 academic session.

She graduated with an impressive Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.47 out of 5.00, topping her class despite navigating structural and academic hurdles.

A Journey of Resilience from Lagos to KanoZainab’s path to academic excellence began with initial setbacks. At the age of 15 in 2018, her first attempt at the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) did not yield an admission offer, despite her high scores.

Undeterred, she sat for the examination again in 2019, specifically choosing BUK due to the stellar reputation of its Faculty of Law.Relocating from Lagos to Kano at a young age presented a significant cultural and geographic shift that initially concerned her parents.

However, her determination was validated when she cleared the Post-UTME screening and topped BUK's first-batch admission list.Navigating Disruptions to Secure Historic AwardsZainab commenced her undergraduate career by scoring a perfect 5.00 Grade Point Average (GPA) in her very first semester. Although subsequent nationwide academic strikes and calendar disruptions altered her initial goal of finishing with a First Class degree, her sustained performance over 10 semesters earned her numerous historic institutional honors.
