COOU History Department Reaffirms Commitment to Environmental Sustainability, Donates Sanitation Equipment
The Department of History and International Studies of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, at her office.

The Department of History and International Studies of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, at her office.
The visit, held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, was aimed at identifying with the University's environmental sustainability agenda while expressing the department's appreciation for the Vice-Chancellor's leadership and initiatives aimed at transforming the institution.
The delegation was led by the Head of Department, Dr. Esther Okezie, and included:
- Professor Cynado Ezeogidi
- Dr. Chijioke A.C. Okoye
- Dr. Ozioma Uchime
- Mr. Collins Okelue
- Mr. Johnpaul Azubuike
- Mrs. Onyebuchi Benita
- Mr. Chinonso Kurume
- Mr. Agbodike Chukwudi
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Okezie commended the Vice-Chancellor for her leadership, particularly the University's "Pick It" environmental sustainability initiative, which she said has significantly enhanced campus beautification and promoted environmental consciousness across the institution's campuses.
In support of the initiative, the department donated sanitation equipment to strengthen the implementation of the "Pick It" campaign.
The donated items included:
- Multiple waste bins.
- A brush cutter.
The department said the donation is intended to promote a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable campus environment.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, expressed appreciation to the department for its support and thoughtful contribution to the University's environmental sustainability agenda.
She noted that since the introduction of the "Pick It" campaign, there has been a significant improvement in students' attitude toward environmental sanitation.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the initiative has not only enhanced the physical appearance of the University but has also fostered a culture of cleanliness, responsibility and environmental stewardship among members of the University community.
Professor Omenugha described the campaign as a continuous learning process capable of shaping responsible citizens while promoting a cleaner and more sustainable academic environment.
