The Department of English at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) recently transformed the Vice-Chancellor’s 61st birthday into a memorable celebration, leaving a lasting impression on Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha herself.

In her address, Prof. Omenugha described the event as the most remarkable birthday of her life, reflecting on how it rekindled memories of her youth and provided the cherished opportunity to interact closely with students. She highlighted that the celebration embodied her long-held vision for a university where creativity thrives, staff and students relate freely, and the welfare of all academic community members is prioritized.

Moved by the occasion, Prof. Omenugha announced a generous donation of ₦500,000 to the Department of English. She further instructed Dr. Ikechukwu Asika, Head of Department, to establish a scholarship in her name for the Best Graduating Student, aimed at promoting academic excellence, rewarding diligence, and reinforcing the values of scholarship and humanity central to the department’s ethos.
