COOU Women in Chemistry to Host 2026 Global Women’s Breakfast

The Women in Chemistry (WIC) unit of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) is set to host the 2026 edition of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Global Women’s Breakfast (GWB), a worldwide initiative promoting networking, collaboration, and inclusion among women in science.

The Women in Chemistry (WIC) unit of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) is set to host the 2026 edition of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Global Women’s Breakfast (GWB), a worldwide initiative promoting networking, collaboration, and inclusion among women in science.

Scheduled for Tuesday, 17th February 2026, the event will take place at the Senate Chamber, COOU Uli Campus, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This year’s theme, “Many Voices, One Science”, emphasizes unity, diversity, and collective impact in the scientific community. Locally, the theme is expressed in Igbo as “Ọ̀TỤ̀TỤ̀ OLU, Ọ̀TỤ̀ ǸKÀ”.

The Global Women’s Breakfast brings together women and allies in chemistry and related disciplines to connect, share experiences, mentor one another, and foster professional collaborations across generations. The COOU edition will provide a platform for academics, researchers, professionals, and students to engage in discussions on advancing gender equity and inclusion in science.

According to Dr. Chinyere Emmanuella Okafor, Coordinator of Women in Chemistry, the event aims to amplify diverse voices, encourage mentorship, and create networking and professional growth opportunities for female scientists. She highlighted the programme’s potential to inspire young women pursuing careers in science.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, FNIPR, will serve as Chief Host, reflecting COOU’s commitment to inclusiveness and excellence in science education.
