Edo State University Vice-Chancellor Honoured With NPBA Fellowship, Elected President

The Vice-Chancellor of Edo State University, Iyamho, Professor Victor Olawale Adetimirin, has been conferred with the Fellowship of the Nigerian Plant Breeders Association (NPBA) and elected as the Association’s new President.

The Vice-Chancellor of Edo State University, Iyamho, Professor Victor Olawale Adetimirin, has been conferred with the Fellowship of the Nigerian Plant Breeders Association (NPBA) and elected as the Association’s new President.

The recognition took place at the NPBA’s 3rd International Conference, held from September 24 to 25, 2025, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja. The conference, which brought together experts and stakeholders, was themed “Crop Improvement for Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture, and the Environment.”

Professor Adetimirin was honoured for his outstanding contributions to plant breeding and agricultural advancement in Nigeria. Accepting the dual honour, he thanked members of the Association for their confidence in his leadership and pledged to steer the NPBA toward greater impact in the agricultural sector.

He assured that under his tenure, the NPBA will focus on strengthening research collaborations among members, institutions, and seed companies; equipping young plant breeders with cutting-edge technologies; and advocating for policies that can drive Nigeria’s agricultural transformation.

According to Professor Adetimirin, the Association remains committed to ensuring food security, improved livelihoods, and sustainable production systems not only in Nigeria but also across Africa.
