The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Rivers State University, Hon. Okey Wali, SAN, has called on student leaders to see unionism as a platform for building leadership skills, responsibility, and service.

He commended both the University Management and student bodies for sustaining peace and fostering constructive engagement on campus, urging them to continue working in harmony with the administration.

Hon. Wali made the remarks on September 26, 2025, during a meeting with the leadership of the Postgraduate Students Association (PGSA) and the Student Union Government (SUG) at the University’s Council Chamber. He assured that all current initiatives are designed to improve student welfare and promote development within the institution.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, in his response, praised the students for their peaceful disposition and highlighted their contributions to the university’s growth, particularly through legacy projects initiated by student leaders.

The Presidents of the PGSA and SUG, while congratulating Hon. Wali on his appointment as Pro-Chancellor, also expressed appreciation to Prof. Zeb-Obipi for improvements on campus. They cited enhanced electricity supply, improved hostel security, timely release of results, and stronger institutional support for student leaders as notable achievements under his leadership.

The meeting was attended by key Principal Officers of the University, including Prof. Valentine Omubo-Pepple, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic); Mrs. I. B. S. Harry, Registrar; Dr. Juliet C. Alex-Nmecha, University Librarian; and Dr. Gift O. Eke, Bursar.
