Federal Polytechnic Bali Set to Launch Postgraduate and Degree Programmes

Federal Polytechnic Bali is undergoing major development as the institution prepares to launch postgraduate and degree programmes. In an interview granted on 3rd December 2025, the Rector, Dr. Mohammed Usman, highlighted progress made under his leadership and the vision for the institution’s future.

Dr. Usman, now in his fifth year as Rector, noted that his first task on assumption of duty was to stabilise administration by correcting staff lateness and updating the institution’s nominal roll. According to him, the Polytechnic has since recorded major strides in infrastructure, accreditation, and community engagement.

He listed ongoing projects such as the female hostel, guest house, and the Food Science Technology Complex. He also expressed concern over the stalled Central Bank intervention projects, including the student hostel and sick bay, but assured that management and the Governing Council are pushing for their completion.

On future plans, Dr. Usman confirmed that the institution is preparing for NBTE Resource Inspection and is finalising affiliation with Modibbo Adama University to run B.Tech programmes. He stated that the Polytechnic has adequate facilities in Engineering and Social Sciences to support the programmes, and the affiliation will not stop existing HND programmes.

He further revealed plans to introduce new ND programmes in Architectural Technology, Urban and Regional Planning, Food Science and Technology, Hospitality Management, and Mass Communication. The recent recruitment exercise, he added, was to strengthen manpower ahead of the new programmes.

The Rector also identified key challenges, including delays in land compensation and lack of connection to the national grid. He announced that the Federal Government has approved a 1.5MW solar farm for the Polytechnic, expected to begin soon. He clarified that the project is strictly for institutional use.

Dr. Usman explained that the ongoing renovations across the campus are Tetfund Special Intervention Projects. On staff concerns, he noted that many issues are national, but the institution has recently settled the 2017/2018 promotion arrears.

He described his relationship with staff, students, and community stakeholders as cordial and rated his working experience with them at about 70–80 percent. He appreciated the Ministry of Education, NBTE, Tetfund, and others for their continued support.

The Rector ended on a hopeful note, assuring that Federal Polytechnic Bali is on the path of growth and greater academic advancement.
