Governor Dauda Lawal Credits Ahmadu Bello University for His Success, Commissions Refurbished Library

The Executive Governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency Dr Dauda Lawal, says Ahmadu Bello University formed the foundation of what he is today.

Governor Lawal disclosed this today (Monday, 8th December, 2025) when he called on Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed.

Lawal, a distinguished alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, was at the institution to commission the upgraded Departmental Library of the Department of Political Science and International Studies.

The governor said they had the best of time back then in ABU and that due to the nature of the conducive environment within the university, they did not go anywhere even while school was on break.

He said they would continue to do more by calling on other like minds that were ready to contribute to the growth of the institution.

According to him, the only thing significant was to see how they could help in whatever capacity to ensure that the Vice-Chancellor succeeded.

Governor Lawal also expressed pleasure being in the midst of the University Management to commission the project.

Lawal thanked the Vice-Chancellor for prioritizing Zamfara State in admission exercise, stressing that everything he did was a product of education.

Earlier in a remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, appreciated Governor Lawal for standing firmly for the institution since before he became a governor.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that not all established alumni looked back, but Governor Lawal had always been consistent.

Prof Ahmed explained that the university was one of the biggest legacies of Sir Ahmadu Bello, and the Management was proud of the governor's ability to perform.

The Vice-Chancellor lauded Governor Lawal's commitment in education, agriculture and infrastructure, and prayed for his continued success.

He thanked members of ABU International Studies Alumni Association for always remembering the department and urged them to sustain the tempo.

Also speaking, National President of the International Studies Alumni Association, ABU, Zaria, Ambassador Muntari Abdu Kaita, emphasized that the renovation was not merely about painting walls or installing computers, but about digital inclusion.

Kaita also said it was about ensuring that a student in Zaria would have the same access to information as students in London, New York or Beijing.

He thanked Governor Lawal for transforming the Library to one of the best, if not the best in the University.

In a closing remark, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof Raymond Bako expressed gratitude to Governor Lawal and members of his entourage for their interest in the university.

Prof Bako stressed that distinguished alumni like the Zamfara State Governor were needed to galvanize support for the university.

He said the Vice-Chancellor had a vision for the university and all the Deputy Vice-Chancellors were supporting him in that course to change the fortune of the university.

In a vote of thanks at the commissioning of the library, the Head, Department of Political Science and International Studies, Dr M L Tafida, thanked Governor Lawal for always supporting the department.

Dr Tafida said the governor singlehandedly rebuilt the structure housing the department and donated a coaster bus for easy mobility of staff.

According to Tafida, the library would increase the ranking of the department as a leading Department of Political Science and International Studies in Nigeria.

He thanked the Vice-Chancellor, the University Management and members of the International Studies Alumni Association for their unwavering support towards the success of the project.

Those present at the commissioning ceremony were Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof Bello Sabo; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi.

Others were representative of the Registrar, Malam Yakubu Anivbassa; and Ag. University Librarian, Dr Abubakar Abdullahi Mohammed.

They also included Director, Directorate of Advancement and International Education, Prof M I Umar-Buratai; Director, Distance Learning Centre, Prof M B Muazu; and Director Public Affairs Directorate, Auwalu Umar.

Others were Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof Shamsuddeen Mohammed; Director, Institute of Administration, Prof Abubakar Madaki; Dean, Faculty of Administration, Prof M K Isah; and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Ibrahim Sani Kaita, among others.
