JAMB Issues Stern Warning Against NIN Abuse as UTME Registration Opens January 26

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a strict warning to prospective candidates for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) against the misuse of their National Identification Number (NIN) during the registration process. 

The directive comes ahead of the official commencement of the 2026 UTME registration period, scheduled to begin on Monday, January 26, 2026. 

JAMB emphasized that the NIN is a mandatory requirement for registration and must be used responsibly. Prohibited acts include:

Registration by Proxy: Using another person's NIN to register a candidate.

Multiple Registrations: Attempting to register using more than one NIN.

Fraudulent Alterations: Manipulating data associated with the NIN. 

The examination body has stated that severe sanctions await any candidate or registration center found guilty of NIN abuse. These penalties can range from disqualification from the examination to prosecution. 

Candidates are advised to ensure their NIN details are accurate and that only their personal NIN is used for the application process. This measure aims to maintain the integrity and transparency of the matriculation examination system nationwide.
