Federal Polytechnic Oko Secures UNIZIK Affiliation to Offer Bachelor's Degree Programmes

Federal Polytechnic Oko has secured approval from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) to offer Bachelor's Degree programmes through an affiliation arrangement, marking a significant milestone in the institution's academic development.
The approval was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions following the successful consideration of an affiliation proposal submitted in February 2026 by the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, and her management team.
The proposal underwent a comprehensive review process by Nnamdi Azikiwe University before receiving approval from the University's Senate, paving the way for the formal affiliation agreement. The development aligns with the Rector's 12-Point Agenda on Academic Re-Invention and Programme Development.
Under the approval, Federal Polytechnic Oko is authorised to run Bachelor's Degree programmes in affiliation with Nnamdi Azikiwe University in the following disciplines:
- Business Administration
- Public Administration
- Accountancy
- Banking and Finance
- Mass Communication
- Computer Science
- Computer Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Chemistry
- Biochemistry
- Microbiology
Speaking on the achievement, Dr. Awuzie expressed appreciation to the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University for the confidence shown in Federal Polytechnic Oko. She described the affiliation as a major step forward in the institution's drive to provide accessible, high-quality and industry-relevant higher education.
According to the Rector, the partnership will expand opportunities for prospective students, strengthen academic excellence and further position Federal Polytechnic Oko as a leading centre for technological and professional education in Nigeria.
The successful approval and execution of the MoU have been attributed to the administration's pursuit of strategic partnerships aimed at promoting institutional growth, innovation and academic advancement.
Members of the Polytechnic community have welcomed the development, describing it as historic and noting that it will broaden educational opportunities by enabling students to obtain university degree qualifications while studying within the Polytechnic's learning environment.
The Bachelor's Degree programmes are expected to commence upon the completion of all required regulatory and administrative processes.
