Federal University Lokoja Congregation Meeting Unveils Strategic Committees, New Slogan, and Renewed Commitment to Staff Welfare

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, on Friday 27 February, 2027, chaired the first congregation meeting since his assumption of office, in a gathering that demonstrated strong unity and commitment to staff welfare, institutional cohesion, and strategic progress.

At the meeting, Professor Ibileye announced the constitution of key committees designed to deepen staff engagement and enhance workforce welfare across the University. Among the committees established are:

Staff Welfare Committee – tasked with regularly reviewing staff needs, working conditions, and welfare enhancements;

End of Year Staff Appreciation Committee – mandated to structure programmes and recognitions that highlight staff contributions at year-end;

These committees, constituted under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, are aimed at ensuring that the University’s human capital concerns are systematically addressed, and that staff feel valued, involved, and empowered in the institution’s growth trajectory.

He also made four strategic announcements:

1. Staff Vehicle Refurbishment Loan Scheme

2. The monetization of invigilation duties 

3. One hundred computers for faculties and departments

4. Marco polo buses for staff and student transportation 

In a positive and interactive atmosphere, Professor Ibileye also proposed a new institutional slogan to reflect the University’s renewed vision of excellence:

This slogan was enthusiastically adopted by the congregation as a rallying theme for the University’s future aspirations.

During the interactive session that followed the official announcements, members of staff, including in-house union representatives, raised pertinent concerns regarding working conditions, welfare entitlements, and institutional support systems. The Vice-Chancellor responded with frank commitments, affirming that every legitimate concern raised will be addressed with honesty, transparency, and urgency.

Professor Ibileye reaffirmed his dedication to building a culture of trust, inclusiveness and institutional excellence where staff welfare is integrated into the core operational ethos of Federal University Lokoja.

The meeting closed with a strong sense of unity, renewed optimism among University staff, and broad support for the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership agenda.
