PAAU Vice-Chancellor Visits Faculty of Education
The Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, paid a familiarisation visit to the Faculty of Education on Tuesday, 17th February 2026, receiving a warm welcome from faculty staff and students.
Receiving the Vice-Chancellor and his management team, the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Lawrence Achimugu, described the visit as a clear demonstration of inclusive and participatory leadership. He noted that the Faculty remains steadfast in advancing the University’s core mandate of knowledge dissemination, community service, and research development through sustained curriculum review, mentoring, and adherence to ethical academic practices.
Professor Achimugu highlighted the Faculty’s national recognition, citing students who have earned Presidential Awards during the National Youth Service Corps programme for exceptional contributions to community development. He also underscored the Faculty’s role in fostering community impact through teaching practice programmes and outreach initiatives that engage educational stakeholders.
The Dean disclosed ongoing affiliation processes with Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, and Calvin Foundation College of Education, Naka, aimed at enhancing academic collaboration and boosting internally generated revenue.
Despite its achievements, the Faculty faces pressing challenges, including shortages of academic staff, inadequate lecture theatres, deteriorating classroom furniture, limited office space, and insufficient support personnel. The Dean also appealed for the approval of new academic programmes, such as Guidance and Counselling and Agricultural Education, to broaden the Faculty’s academic offerings and strengthen its contribution to national educational development.
In response, Prof. Usman commended the Faculty for its accomplishments under challenging circumstances and assured staff that the issues raised would receive deliberate attention. He reiterated that education is central to national development and encouraged faculty members to maintain mentorship, professionalism, and high ethical standards, essential for producing responsible and competent graduates.
Across his visits to multiple faculties, the Vice-Chancellor consistently emphasised collaboration, discipline, mentorship, and shared responsibility as core drivers of institutional growth. He also paid tribute to the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Adoza Bello, and the incumbent Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for their sustained support of the University’s development and enhancement of staff welfare.
During the visit, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) Director of Welfare, Comrade Bala Abubakar, presented a customised jersey to Prof. Usman as a symbol of goodwill and solidarity. The presentation, made in the presence of University management, faculty staff, and students, was described as a reflection of the cordial relationship between the administration and the student body.
Prof. Usman expressed gratitude for the gesture, describing it as encouraging and affirming the collaborative spirit within the University. He assured students of his continued commitment to policies and programmes that promote student welfare, academic excellence, and a conducive learning environment.
